I echo what Mr. Kramer said already about homework (see below). It should not be something that is an enormous stressor. If it is, let me know, and we will work it out. That being said, remember our three super powers that can defeat almost any academic challenge: focus, meticulous note taking, and reflection.
For me, focus is making a decision to accomplish something and then making sure that my environment is a help to making that goal achievable. Usually, that means a quiet environment free of distractions.
Careful note taking is also important for two reasons. First, if it is written down, I don’t have to worry about remembering it. If I forget, I can consult my notes. Secondly, my notes represent my thoughts. They represent personal reactions to learning experiences. I have found that I can figure out a lot of things through writing down my reactions to most anything. It’s like this: through writing, you come to know your own mind---your opinions, feelings, and beliefs about most anything.
Lastly, reflection is an important habit because it allows for space to see how things are going, whether good or not-so-good, and plan for getting back on track or further growth. One caveat: reflection must be done without judgment. It's like this: you have a bad day; does it help at all to add shame or blame to it? No! However, what is of enormous help is to look clearly at the problem and make a plan.
You all dazzle me each day with your wit, sensitivity, and pluck. Just remember, if it’s hard, let's talk. We will work it out.
